چکیده

Qualitative and quantitative standards have been recently proposed for islet isolation asaeument in humans and large animals ( 1). The ultimate test of viability is functional activity after transplantation into a diabetic recipient. Morphologic identification of insulin-containing transplanted islets could provide important correlative data and eventually confmn the functional results. Recently. several centers reported prolonged insulin independence after human islet allotransplantation (25). The present report describes the first identification of islet tissue in a liver biopsy after intrahepatic islet allotransplanta-

Histologic finding of pancreatic islet tissue following intraportal human islet allotransplantation.

THE ultimate test of viability of separated human islets is functional activity after transplantation into a diabetic recipient. Morphologic identification of insulin-containing transplanted islets could provide important correlative data and eventually confirm the functional results. The present report describes identification of intrahepatic islet tissue following human islet allotransplantat...

Insulin independence for 58 months following pancreatic islet cell transplantation in a patient undergoing upper abdominal exenteration.

THE most successful outcome of pancreatic islet allotransplantation has been in patients with upper abdominal malignancies who have undergone cluster resection followed by liver replacement. I.2 Between January 1990 and June 1992. 11 patients underwent this procedure; six (55%) of whom were insulin-independent until demise, due to recurrence of the primary disease. We report herein. a 58-month ...

Immunohistochemical characterization of pancreatic duodenal homeobox protein-1, neurogenin-3 and insulin protein expressions in islet-mesenchymal cell in vitro interactions from injured adult pancreatic tissues: a morphochronological evaluation

Objective(s): The use of a co-culture of islets with mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) is a promising therapy in islet transplantation to revert hyperglycaemia, but the resulting insulin-producing cells (IPCs) express low levels of pancreas endocrine developmental genes. This study aims to investigate the morphochronology of a co-culture of islets with MSCs from injured adult pancreata, and char...

Outcome of human islet isolation and allotransplantation in 20 consecutive cases.

This report provides our initial experience on islet isolation and intrahepatic allotransplantation in 20 patients. In Group 1, 10 patients underwent combined liver-islet allotransplantation following upper-abdominal exenteration for cancer. One patient underwent pancreatic islet allograft after near total pancreatectomy for chronic pancreatitis. In Group 2, 3 Type I diabetic patients received ...

Islet Transplantation in Diabetes: the Pittsburgh Experience

Nineteen-ninety was a significant year for clinical islet transplantation, since after many attempts reports of short terml and prolonged2.6 insulin independence following human islet allotransplantation, indicated that it is possible to replace the endocrine function of the pancreas by an islet transplant in man. The development of improved procedures for islet isolation and purification from ...
